Auckland Aikikai was founded by Rosso
Fernandez Sensei (6th dan) in 1999 to further promote
Aikido in New Zealand.
Rosso Sensei was the first non-Japanese to be admitted into
and serve a traditional apprenticeship as a live-in student
at Aikido Hombu Dojo, under the late Ni-daime Doshu, UESHIBA
Kisshomaru (1921–1999). He was also the first New
Zealander to receive a 5th degree black belt from the late
Ni-daime Doshu.
Auckland Aikikai is recognised as an independant Aikikai
organisation by Aikido Hombu Dojo and Rosso Sensei is an
internationally acknowledged chief instructor. He has taught
Aikido for many years both nationally and internationally
and returns regularly to Hombu Dojo to further his own training.
Auckland Aikikai has several dojo throughtout the greater
Auckland area and also in New Plymouth. Please refer to
the training schedule to find a dojo near you.
